What role does imagination play in your business? In your life? Did you know the concept of imagination was introduced into philosophy by Aristotle, who called the imagination, phantasia? It’s no wonder Disney used the English spelling of the word as the title of their most imaginative movie ever.
What is imagination’s role in your problem solving? How does it relate to your desires? How about how you manage people?
Are you only using your brain? How about your soul? According to Aristotle, "The soul never thinks without a mental image.”
Imagine (v) – to form a mental image of something not actually present
to the senses.
Imagination (n) - 1) The faculty of forming mental images or concepts of what is not actually present to the senses.
2) Ability to face and resolve difficulties; resourcefulness.
3) The power of reproducing images stored in the memory under the suggestion of associated images (reproductive imagination)
4) The power of recombining former experiences in the creation of new images directed at a specific goal or aiding in the solution of problems (creative imagination)
Imaging (v) – A technique in which one uses mental images to control
bodily processes and thus ease pain or succeed in some
endeavor that one has visualized in advance.
Every idea is born in the imagination.
You’re contemplating a change of some sort. What is it? What mental image – what phantasma - do you see when you look into the future where the solution exists? If you can’t see a mental image, complete with color, dimension, possibly sound and specific characteristics of the solution as it could possibly be, you’re not fully tapped into your imagination.
" You can fill a man with knowledge and all you will have is a man filled with knowledge, but spark his imagination and he can conquer the universe." Albert Einstein

Your imagination holds the key to creating the solutions you want and need. |

Business owners and managers – have you created a work environment that makes creativity and imagination easy? You can tell by how readily new ideas are offered – and what people do with them once they are suggested.
Listen carefully. If the majority of people immediately talk about the problems with the suggestion and the reasons it won’t work, imagination is not safe or valued by your staff. They may be trying to please someone instead of generating creative alternatives.
How closely bunched are the ideas? That means, how similar are they? If they are very similar, creativity is not flowing wildly and freely. People are editing their ideas to find what they think will be accepted or what will work. Every great invention was either a complete accident or once a wild and crazy idea. If you’re not getting all possible ideas out, you’re missing opportunities.
Is there one person who gets frustrated easily because their reasonable ideas are quickly rejected – usually before they’re totally explained?
If you said yes, your company would benefit from an Activate Potential workshop on Imagina(c)tion – harnessing the untapped power of imagination, to solve problems and create lasting improvements.
