Needing a breakthrough in performance and results? Looking to breakout to a new permanent level of success? Can you “see” a bright and exciting future and what’s possible? Is it coming to fruition as well or as fast as you imagined?
My entire focus is helping you get there faster.
You See It But…
Maybe you are tired of you and/or your team not firing on all cylinders.
Maybe you’re just tired—but there’s no time to rest.
Do you sense—or are you already crystal clear—that you need to step up how you’re leading your team and the wider organization? Do you need to transmute anxiety and stress into renewed enthusiasm and energy?
Lead the Change
Our most successful clients want to dramatically improve how they inspire, inform, and invite their people into scoping and systematically tackling the big tasks and projects needed to turn the bright future they “see” into the reality they LIVE day in and day out. Simply put, they want to be better.
Maybe you’re fed up with underperformance but aren’t quite sure how to translate what you see into terms, processes, and goals that motivate others to do the work needed to get there. Maybe you’re already so frustrated that your motivational tactics have degraded into all carrots and sticks—and they’re not working.
Get There Faster
Every Activate Potential client wants results. Every one is ambitious. They’re accomplished. They naturally strive to reach new heights. It’s how they’re wired. They can see that “next level” and want to accelerate getting there. And they want to be better themselves in order to achieve better with and through others.
Is that you?
We do not try to serve everyone and every company. I’ve structured this business for low volume and high quality. We work with a select number of entrepreneurs and leaders of teams who are ready. Committed. Not wavering or hedging in any way. Certain they want outside help to activate their fullest potential, bring out the best in everyone on the team, and get there faster.
You don’t have to know “how” of what you want to accomplish—we will help you with that— but our clients are not dabblers. They’re determined. If that’s you, I welcome you to call or email so we can begin to explore the possibility of working together.
A Word About the “How”
For 30 years I’ve watched leaders play at the surface when what’s been needed is a richer understanding and engagement on their part to “the human side of enterprise”, as renowned management researcher Douglas McGregor called it. They’ve tried purely left brain, “perfectly rational” and expertly flow-charted approaches to human engagement and performance. They’ve relied on carrot and stick motivation techniques in endless combinations. They’ve turned to metrics-everything—and yet their teams remain not fully engaged. Not fully enthusiastic, energized, creative. Darn close to burnout. In fairness, reinforcement principles were the most advanced science of the day–a very long time ago. Not so anymore. What did those old-school leaders do when things didn’t go as well as imagined? They doubled down with even more rationality, different and “better” incentives, needing to “get the wrong people off the bus”, and they’d talk endlessly about “holding people accountable”.
Such 20th century leaders didn’t, and still don’t realize that 21st century employees have changed. They’re wise to those old ways. And their expectations of their leaders have changed. What is called for now is a much deeper and evolved approach to human leadership. But, old ways die hard. Activate Potential clients realize that the change, the upgrade, the improvement in leadership needs to start with themselves. We are her to help our clients accelerate their development.
This means enriching your understanding of what makes today’s employees tick. It also means looking at leadership holistically, as a relationship between an ambitious you and ambitious others, be they executive peers, investors, community stakeholders, or employees. Often a mix of them all. So it involves taking stock of what you envision and what your people envision. It means leading by leveraging your strengths, and learning how to draw upon and enhance the strengths of your people. And, it also includes taking stock of your deepest aspirations, values, triggers, beliefs, and how all of that is “showing up” in how you shape the organization’s goals, your decisions, your language, your messages to the financial markets and the industry, and ultimately, your leadership actions toward your people.
Activate Potential clients are eager to do that work—and they find it easier (and faster) to do with dedicated and expert help. And they know that 20th century approaches are out of step with what’s needed to motivate their people do to their best work in today’s aggressive business and macro-culture.
Activate Potential clients know deep down that to get more and better from others, they need to summon more and better from themselves. They want to do that work. Having read all of these ideas, the decision now is simply to ask yourself, “Am I ready? Am I all in?” If you hear a “Yes. Yes!” in your mind, let’s go.
Then Let’s Go…
It’s that straightforward. No nonsense. We will help you get there faster. If you’re ready right now, call or email so we can explore the possibilities and start to scope out what an engagement would look like.
Not Ready Yet? No Problem.
I respect that now may not be the right time for your organization, or personally, you may not be ready just yet. I’ve worked with coaches myself periodically for 17 years, and have only ever formally engaged with them when I’ve been sure that I was all in and could dedicate time and focus to “doing the work”.
If now is not the time, you can still use us as inspiration and education in the background by visiting our blog regularly. You can also automate the process by signing up get new posts to your email. We only post every two to three weeks, so you won’t be overwhelmed.
And, by all means, we welcome your call/email in the future.
ON-SITE SHADOWING –
A Multi-Day Accelerated Intensive
There are many advantages to working with a coach via phone or video/Skype/BlueJeans. Obviously it is convenient; you and I can be anywhere and still connect. One disadvantage is that it’s asynchronous; we will be talking about a past or future situation. Another disadvantage is that even in the most robust, open, and progress-focused relationships the client–you–will be describing situations/relationships you are working on. Whether you wish to or not and despite your coach–me–being experienced and skilled at picking up more data/insight about a situation than you provide in words, your descriptions and insights are infused by your preferences, interpretations, and biases. This is inevitable; it’s how human perception works–even for the most transparent, honest, and determined leaders.
On-site shadowing minimizes those disadvantages. It is an intensive service that embeds your coach–me–in your real work setting, alongside you and your colleagues, and in real time. This allows me to witness your interactions in group meetings, one-to-ones, and even ad-hoc meetings as they unfold in the real world and in real time.
So, one big advantage of this service is the opportunity to receiving coaching in real time, with no delay. Think of it working much like a player or coach calls a time out during key moments in a basketball game. On-site shadowing allows you to accelerate your development and adjust your approach on the fly.
Other advantages include significantly more time with your coach, as well as the chance for your coach to do some research by talking with your stakeholders. Consider this an acceleration program when you are determined to “get there faster”. This is a highly customized service, so an indepth conversation will be needed. COACHING for INTACT TEAMS
We are focused on helping your team achieve new levels of dynamism and success by deepening connections between team members and orienting everyone individually–and together–toward shared goals and the acceptable (and unacceptable) means to get there.
Group dynamics–a term that refers to the psychological beliefs, biases, “politics”, values, and assumptions about oneself and others–govern what is truly possible when a number of people voluntarily come together to try to achieve something exciting and important. Group dynamics have even stronger influence when new members join an established team, or established contributors leave, die, or become less committed and engaged over time. Group dynamics are more powerful than our pristine processes, goals, “expectations” we try to “hold people accountable” to, and even our biggest budgets and boldest plans.
We work with teams up to 10 people in size. This work varies widely in scope, as you would imagine. It also always includes in-person/on-site work. It cannot be done entirely via WebEx, phone, or Skype. So, given the many moving parts and the substantial time and financial commitment it will require of you and your organization, a discovery conversation (or more) will be needed. Feel free to get in touch after you have decided that you and your team are committed to working with a coach over a number of months. We have limited time–as you do–so I ask that you get in touch when you’re determined to engage with us to do more than just “kick the tires.”
